If you’re a Xero user, you may have started to notice a new helper popping up in your account. Meet JAX (short for “Just Ask Xero”), Xero’s built-in AI finance assistant, and it’s designed to take some of the everyday admin off your plate.
What is JAX?
JAX is a conversational AI assistant that lives inside Xero. Rather than clicking through menus, you can simply ask it a question or give it a task in everyday language, whether that’s on your desktop, mobile, or by email.
What can it actually help with?
- Automatic bank reconciliation. This is the headline feature. JAX matches your bank transactions against existing invoices, bills, your saved bank rules and your own past reconciliation patterns. Where it’s highly confident, it reconciles for you; where it isn’t, it leaves the transaction for you to review. Xero reports around 97% accuracy on this.
- Creating invoices and quotes. Ask something like “Create an invoice for Smith Construction based on their last quote,” and JAX drafts it for you.
- Instant answers about your finances. Questions like “What was my total income over the last six months?” or “Show my gross profit trend for the past year” get quick, easy-to-read answers, often with charts.
- Capturing bills and receipts. JAX can read and categorise your bills and receipts, cutting down on manual data entry.
You’re always in control
This is the important part. JAX is designed with a “human-in-the-loop” approach: it does the legwork, but everything it does is logged for you to review, and you can switch the automation on or off for each bank account. You stay in the driver’s seat.
One thing worth knowing: these features only work if JAX is turned on in your Xero file. If it’s switched off, neither you nor your R+M team can take advantage of them.
