Our Tribute To The Late Keith Coggan

Date: 2 December 2024
VALE Keith Coggan 24/03/1939 – 8/11/2024, former Partner of Roberts + Morrow.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the death of Keith Coggan, who was the third Partner at Roberts + Morrow, joining founding Partners, The Late Don Roberts and The Late Jack Morrow.
Keith joined Roberts + Morrow as a Junior Clerk in January 1956. He had a deep loyalty and affection for both Don Roberts and Jack Morrow, but it was Don in particular who proved a real mentor and almost father figure for Keith. They remained close after Don retired and up until his death.
In 1962, Keith married Margaret (Miggs) Clutterbuck who was teaching at The Armidale Demonstration School at the time. She proved to be a continual, strong support to Keith throughout his incredibly busy career. Keith’s daughter Ros, shared this funny story about her father’s start as a Partner and his wife’s wonderful sense of humour:
“On being admitted as Junior Partner, Dad was looking forward to his first Partner’s meeting and asked Mum to make sure she packed him a good lunch to ensure it made him look good. Mum being rather nonplussed at this request, given she thought she always packed him a good lunch, made it very special. When Dad opened his lunchbox in front of everyone at the boardroom table it exploded with curled ribbons and bows which she had tied around his sandwiches. Dad never lived it down, and shortly afterwards started to buy his lunch!”
Ros also shared, “Roberts + Morrow played an enormous part in our family life and was a great source of passion and pride for Dad. He came from a modest background and he managed to rise up the ranks to eventually become Senior Partner of an esteemed local accountancy practice.” Keith worked passionately for his clients over his career, retiring in 1993.
Current Partner Joel Weier joined the firm in 1999, after Keith had retired, but Joel recalls the lasting impact Keith left on the business and the path that he and the founding Partners had created for the next generation of Partners and team members to grow the firm to what it is today.
Keith is survived by his three daughters, Rosalyn, Nicola and Bronwyn and nine grandchildren Christopher, Samuel, Maggie, Jordan, Tim, Noah, Ciaran, Suzie and Alex.
We have included some photos kindly provided by Keith’s family: (1) The three Senior Partners; Don Roberts, Keith Coggan and Jack Morrow, (2) Keith at his office desk (the glass of champagne indicates it may have been Melbourne Cup day), (3) Keith and his wife Miggs, and (4) An office decorative prank when Keith turned 50 (a tradition that is still in the firm today for milestone birthdays).
We sincerely thank Keith for his lasting contribution to Roberts + Morrow and we send comfort, thoughts and prayers to the Coggan family at this difficult time.
